The 2018 college football kickoff weekend match is here. The match originated in 1987 and has been a yearly tradition since. Last years championship game was between the Clemson Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide. It was a monumental performance by both teams with 4 lead changes in the 4th quarter, with Clemson finally emerging victorious - 44-16. Michigan Wolverines, under Head Coach Jim Harbaugh, is the favorite to win this year's title this year but measuring up against defensive coordinator Brent Venables of Clemson - who has produced NFL-caliber defenses for 27 consecutive years - will not be an easy task. The biggest game of the young college football season will take place this Saturday when Michigan travels to Clemson to face the defending national champions. The contest will feature two of the nation's best teams, both of which are undefeated and ranked in the top-five.

Clemson is coming off a dominant win over then- No. 12 Texas A&M, in which they put up 600 yards of offense and held the Aggies to just 286. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence was once again the star of the show, throwing for three touchdowns and running for another. The Tigers' defense was also impressive, forcing three turnovers and sacking Texas A&M quarterback Kellen Mond five times.

Michigan, meanwhile, had a much closer call against Army in their season opener. The Wolverines needed overtime to defeat the Black Knights 24-21, thanks in large part to a strong performance from running back Zach Charbonnet. Charbonnet ran for 162 yards and all three of Michigan's touchdowns in the victory.

While both teams looked good in their opening games, it's clear that Clemson is on another level right now. The Tigers have won two national titles in the past three years and seem poised to make a run at a third

In order for Clemson to win this game, they will need to do a few things. 

Offensively, they need to be able to run the ball well. This will keep Michigan's defense honest and open up the passing game. They also need to be able to protect quarterback Deshaun Watson. He is a very good quarterback, but if he doesn't have time to throw, he won't be able to do much.

Defensively, they need to be able to stop Michigan's running game. The Wolverines like to run the ball a lot, so if Clemson can shut that down, it will force them to throw the ball more. And if they can get pressure on Michigan's quarterback, it will make things very difficult for them.

If Clemson can do these things, they should be in good shape and have a good chance to win the game.

1. Establish the run early: In order to keep Clemson's high-powered offense off the field, Michigan will need to establish its running game early and keep the chains moving. This will be a tall task against Clemson's stout defensive line, but if Michigan can find some success on the ground it will go a long way towards winning the game.

3. Put pressure on QB Kelly Bryant: Bryant is a very talented quarterback, but he's not used to facing a lot of pressure. If Michigan can get after him and force him into making mistakes, it could make things very difficult for the Clemson offense.

4. Make big plays on special teams: This is always important in any big game, but it could be especially crucial in this one. If Michigan can make a couple of big plays on special teams it could provide a big boost for their chances of winning.

The home field advantage for the Michigan vs. Clemson game is up for grabs. While it is technically a "neutral site" game, it is being played at a stadium in Detroit, which is just over an hour from Michigan's campus. That being said, there are sure to be plenty of Wolverines fans in attendance, giving them a slight edge in that department.
