who is jeff bezos?
The founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos is the wealthiest individual in the world with a net worth estimated to be $189 billion in 2016. He was born on 17 October 1964 in Seattle and is an immigrant from China where he grew up, before moving to Washington, D.C., as part of his college education. His father is Robert Bezos; his mothers are Joyce Bezuidenhout and Pamela Chockalingam. His children include three girls born in New York and three boys born in Canada. Before becoming a business owner himself, he studied at Georgetown University for several years, then worked several jobs before eventually launching an online bookstore, which became Amazon.com.
As well as being the founder of Amazon, he owns other companies such as Blue Origin alongside his wife Laurene Powell Jobs, the space agency Blue Origin, and various other tech ventures. During this time he has also been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and has become reliant on using an electric wheelchair. By 2030, he had invested 50% in the company Space X which was later sold to Elon Musk's SpaceX for £100 million and a deal to develop a reusable rocket.
Bezos has now made more than $60 billion in income after taking over as head of Amazon despite the fact that there has been considerable scrutiny and controversy over some of how they operate. This success hasn't stopped him making major financial decisions and plans for further expansion including possibly opening fulfilment centres in Singapore and India. He has also tried to make politics easier by setting up a foundation for small investors to start investing in the American political system. While it isn't known exactly what he wants to do with the money, he clearly believes that technology will play a key role in solving problems in society. Furthermore he has set out on multiple trips around the globe to raise awareness about climate change and encourage people to support each other and help those with disabilities such as MS to get access to their devices and services. As well as making changes in the areas of tax and environmental policies, he has attempted to reduce corporate taxes in many countries. In addition, with regard to politics he decided to invest in democracy in order to help the electorate realise that elected officials can make reasonable choices. One example was when he bought the Electoral College Electoral Votes, which helped secure Biden the election and made him president-elect.
While no one knows quite how much money is involved in politics, it's estimated that Amazon makes roughly £2 billion per year in profits. However due to these controversies and allegations, Amazon has said that it may never return to the glory that its founders had envisioned. Despite all that, Bezos has done a lot of good work and is widely admired as the man who created the market for free products on the internet without charging a cent.
In 2014, Forbes Magazine ranked Jim Carrey among the 100 richest individuals in the world and gave them the nickname 'The Rock' saying he could turn any movie into a superhero flick. Since then, he has gained worldwide acclaim after portraying Superman, most recently in the film Justice League.
In 2000s, Bezos was seen as someone who changed the face of the world through his revolutionary new invention Amazon Web Services. It offered users scalable storage, easy access to content, and instant delivery. Now, in 2015, however, the company is looking into expanding its operations beyond the web. There are reports that it has plans to establish fulfilment centres in Mexico and Canada, and even more locations in Asia. They are currently working on establishing facilities in Germany, Spain, Romania and Hong Kong.
In January 2017, Bezos revealed that Amazon would stop developing its own products and instead have a dedicated team focus on delivering to customers. He said "I'm leaving my leadership of Amazon to Mike Cannon-Brookes, our Chief Customer Officer who was here yesterday" when asked if he was leaving to take on another job or whether he would continue to be working. He explained that he wanted to pursue a different career and that since the beginning the company was always ambitious, but did not want to leave too soon. After handing down the baton to Jim Cannon-Brookes, Bezos now feels able to explore a bigger variety of opportunities, while also exploring his own vision for the future.
He previously said that he hoped to open 10 new headquarters across the world. Not only that, but Amazon now has offices in Australia, Portugal, Italy, Japan, Belgium, Hungary and France.
Some critics have speculated that Amazon might look into creating its own cryptocurrencies known as 'Etherium’, and this is why the question of Bitcoin came up so often during previous negotiations of the price of Amazon's shares. Some believe that once the deals are concluded it would mark the beginning of Amazon becoming a mainstream trading platform.
This wasn't confirmed and this might all just be speculation by some analysts. At present the cryptocurrency market is still tiny compared to traditional markets and there's very little news to announce regarding the project itself. If Amazon acquired Ethereum for its cloud infrastructure, would it be better? Or would it be better to create your own tokens and sell others?
